Rilska Skakavitsa is the highest waterfall in Rila. Its waters drop from over seventy metres, at about 1,750 metres above sea level, in the heart of Rila National Park, near the Skakavitsa hut. We reach it from Panichishte, above Sapareva Banya.
The path passes through old coniferous forest and follows the river to the foot of the waterfall. In winter the sight is different: the waterfall freezes completely into a wall of ice that climbers ascend. Then we visit it with the right gear.
It is at its fullest in late spring and early summer. Depending on the season and the snow, we choose the right day and route. Write to us and we will tell you the next date.
